Experts from theCentral Institute for Restoration with the collaboration of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage of Umbria, the Department of Chemistry of the University of Perugia and the Municipality decided to take samples of water and the yellow patina that covered the three bronze statues placed in the center of the basin of Perugia’s Fontana Maggiore.
This operation was necessary to find out why the nymphs took on this strange coloring.
The samples, taken with the help of a basket and a mechanical arm, will be analyzed first by the Institute for Restoration and then by chemists from the University of Perugia.
