PART, a new museum venue that brings together works by leading contemporary artists, opens in Rimini

A new museum venue opens in Rimini's central Piazza Cavour: PART - Palazzi dell'Arte. Great international artists in the collection

PART, the new museum venue that combines the redevelopment of two historic buildings in the city and thepermanent display of the extensive collection of contemporary art works donated to the San Patrignano Foundation by artists, collectors and gallery owners, opens in Rimini.

A special opening weekend is awaited to admire the museum: the doors of PART - Palazzi dell’Arte Rimini will open free of charge to the public on Thursday, September 24, 2020 from 5 p.m. to midnight and Friday, September 25, Saturday, 26 and Sunday, September 27, 2020 from 9 a.m. until midnight.

The new museum is located within the medieval monumental complex consisting of the thirteenth-century Palazzo dell’Arengo and the fourteenth-century Palazzo del Podestà, the two imposing adjoining buildings that, together with Palazzo Garampi, Teatro Galli and the Pescheria, overlook the central Piazza Cavour.

On display inside will be the San Patrignano Foundation’s collection, a constantly expanding collection since 2017 of works donated by established contemporary artists from the Italian and international scene.

The restoration and functional readjustment of the buildings is the work of Studio AR.CH.IT led by Luca Cipelletti, who was also responsible for the layout of the San Patrignano collection. The museographic project does not follow a path of historical-critical relationships between the works, so visitors can freely admire the masterpieces on display. The works also dialogue with the medieval spaces of the Palazzo dell’Arengo and Podestà.

This work of artistic-cultural redevelopment of the city has been made possible through an intense synergic work between the public and the private social sector: the agreement between the Municipality of Rimini and the San Patrignano Foundation, thanks also to the contribution of the Emilia Romagna Region, has made it possible to provide the city with an innovative museum designed to be both an opportunity for the general public to approach contemporary art and a tool to enhance the donations received by the community.

The contemporary art collection hosted by PART is in fact the result, in continuous growth and evolution, of the first major Italian endowment initiative on an Anglo-Saxon model: the works in the collection have been donated to the San Patrignano Foundation with deeds that commit the Foundation not to alienate them for a minimum period of five years, making them visible to the public; thereafter they can be sold only in case of extraordinary needs of the community to meet priority needs of guests on the path of recovery from drug addiction.

The collection brings together top artists such as Mario Airò, Vanessa Beecroft, Bertozzi & Casoni, Domenico Bianchi, Alessandro Busci, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Maurizio Cannavacciuolo, Loris Cecchini, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Sandro Chia, Roberto Coda Zabetta, George Condo, Enzo Cucchi, Anne de Carbuccia, Thomas De Falco, Nicola de Maria, Gianluca Di Pasquale, Zehra Dogan, Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg, Sam Falls, Flavio Favelli, Giuseppe Gallo, Alberto Garutti, Giorgio Griffa, Shilpa Gupta, Mona Hatoum, Damien Hirst, Carsten Höller, Emilio Isgrò, Giovanni Iudice, William Kentridge, Loredana Longo, Claudia Losi, Iva Lulashi, Ibrahim Mahama, Agnes Martin, Paul McCarthy, Igor Mitoraj, Davide Monaldi, Gian Marco Montesano, Mimmo Paladino, Yan Pei-Ming, Tullio Pericoli, Achille Perilli, Diego Perrone, Luca Pignatelli, Pino Pinelli, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Gianni Politi, Matteo Pugliese, Jean Paul Riopelle, Pietro Ruffo, Mario Schifano, Julian Schnabel, Elisa Sighicelli, Andreas Slominski, Ettore Spalletti, Grazia Toderi, Francesco Vezzoli, Velasco Vitali, Silvio Wolf, Xiaongang Zhang.
