Palermo is officially Capital of Culture 2018.
The Council of Ministers approved the proposal of Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini: the choice had been made in January.
Palermo “has an original project, of high cultural value, of great humanitarian scope, strongly and generously oriented to inclusion, lifelong learning, capacity building and citizenship, without neglecting the valorization of heritage and contemporary artistic productions,” this is the motivation for its choice.
The main focus is on Manifesta 12, a major contemporary art biennial, and on the Arab-Norman route of Palermo, Monreale and Cefalù proclaimed World Heritage Site.
By autumn, the program of initiatives and events to be organized in 2018 as Capital of Culture will be presented.
