For the first time, from March 21, 2020, Casa Leopardi in Recanati will open to the public part of the main floor and the apartments where Giacomo Leopardi lived with his brothers.

Thanks to the new tour itinerary, called Ove Abitai Fanciullo, visitors will have the opportunity to access the palace’s state rooms, the gallery that holds the art collections, the garden that inspired the verses of Le Ricordanze, the small living room where the Leopardi brothers entertained, and the famous poet’s private rooms.

The unprecedented opening of these rooms, known as the Brecce, was made possible through careful restoration. The original pictorial decorations have been brought to light. Count Monaldo had these rooms built between the two guardhouses in order to allow his children greater independence and intimacy.

This event ends a 20-year project to expand access to Leopardi’s places. Countess Olimpia Leopardi, a descendant of the poet, said the project of restoring and then opening the Giacomo Leopardi spaces to the public was strongly desired by her father and she is now proud to have completed it.

In addition to the Library, Casa Leopardi, which has become a true museum complex, offers the renovated Museo Leopardi where it is possible to retrace the poet’s life through his objects, the virtual journey Io nel pensier mi fingo, and the opening of the rooms inhabited by Teresa Fattorini.
