No roof over Verona's Arena: Superintendence rejects project

After a year and a half of evaluations, the Verona Superintendence of Fine Arts has (fortunately) rejected the plan for a roof over the Arena.

No to the roofing of theArena of Verona: making the rejection of the project final (fortunately) was precisely the Superintendence of Fine Arts of Verona.

Also in favor of the rejection is the mayor of Verona, Federico Sboarina, who said, "The Arena is unique in the world panorama of cultural heritage. To distort this jewel with a cover would have been a wound not only to the amphitheater but also to the entire square. I thank the superintendent of Verona, whose negative opinion and detailed scientific analysis put an end to a project that I never agreed with."

After a year-and-a-half-long evaluation process, the Superintendent’s Office rejected the project it won last January for a sort of modern velarium with a curtain that retracts to one side-a project that had won a competition held by the city administration itself to repair the stalls and protect the Arena’s structures from wear and tear.

According to the Superintendent’s Office, the modern veil would have been too invasive due to vertical supports and would also have caused an alteration of the monument, also from a landscape point of view.
