New lighting for the Civic Museum of Siena

On Dec. 21, the new lighting of the Siena Civic Museum will be unveiled by Philippe Daverio: a new light for the Majesty and Good Government frescoes.

On Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. Philippe Daverio will present and inaugurate the new lighting of the Museo Civico di Siena, which will allow visitors to admire in particular Simone Martini ’s Maestà and Ambrogio Lorenzetti’s Buon Governo frescoes.

The lighting project is based on the"Monza Method," or the first lighting intervention applied in Monza in the Zavattari Chapel.

According to architect Francesco Iannone’s explanation, it is a methodology that involves the superimposition of lights with different spectral gradation and coming from different directions and that produces a great emotional impact in visitors.
The project also involves the recovery of the ancient wrought-iron chandeliers present in the rooms of the Civic Museum until 1992.
