New lighting for St. Peter’s Basilica: one hundred thousand LED lights with a new digital system make it possible to admire again many masterpieces that previously were not clearly visible in their details.

A project signed by Osram, a German company, which aimed to highlight, with more than 780 special fixtures and a light control system thanks to which it is possible to adapt the lighting according to conditions, one of the most splendid basilicas in the world, visited every year by numerous tourists. “Thanks to this intelligent lighting it is possible to admire the architectural beauty of the Basilica,” says Angelo Comastri, cardinal of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.



In addition, through an integrated digital lighting control system, specific scenarios can be created and selected for each liturgy need.

The design and installation work took nearly two years and now the Basilica shines in all its magnificence.
