New dpcm out: open museums and cultural places in yellow zones

Official: new dpcm out. They open museums and cultural places but only in yellow zones and only on weekdays. Therefore, citizens of Basilicata, Campania, Molise, Sardinia, Tuscany and Trentino can return to museums for now.

As of January 18, places of culture will reopen: at the moment, however, only in yellow zones and on weekdays, Monday through Friday (thus excluding holidays). This is stipulated by the January 14 dpcm signed last night by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, valid for one month, until February 15. Thus, museums and archaeological sites reopen, joining libraries and archives, which had already reopened. All in compliance with the regulations we all know by now: quotas, spacing, sanitation and whatnot. Here is what the text of the dpcm reads:

“The service of opening to the public of museums and other institutes and places of culture referred to in Article 101 of the Code of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, referred to in Legislative Decree January 22, 2004, no. 42, is ensured, from Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays, provided that said institutes and places, taking into account the size and characteristics of the premises open to the public, as well as the flow of visitors (more or less than 100,000 per year), guarantee modalities of use that are contingent or in any case such as to avoid assemblages of people and to allow visitors to respect the distance between them of at least one meter. The service is organized taking into account the protocols or guidelines adopted by the regions or the Conference of Autonomous Regions and Provinces. The administrations and managing bodies of museums and other institutes and places of culture may identify specific organizational, prevention and protection measures, as well as worker protection, taking into account the characteristics of the places and the activities carried out. Exhibitions are also open to the public, under the same conditions as provided in this letter for museums and institutes and places of culture.”

This is what is stated in Art. 1: the measure covers the entire national territory, except for regions or autonomous provinces in orange zones (Art. 2: “scenario of high severity and from a high level of risk,” where access to cultural places remains suspended) or red zones (Art. 3: “scenario of maximum severity and from a high level of risk”).

At the moment, therefore, museums in Basilicata, Campania, Molise, Sardinia, Tuscany, and the autonomous province of Trento are reopening their doors (obviously only those that will be able to do so). Instead, cinemas, theaters, concert halls, and gyms remain closed.
