The names of the ten finalist cities for the Italian Capital of Culture 2026 have been announced by the Ministry of Culture . The Jury, chaired by Davide Maria Desario, chose the 10 finalist projects after reviewing the applications received. 7. Maratea (Potenza): “Maratea 2026. The future starts from a millennial journey”
8. Rimini: “Come Beyond. The future here and now.”
9. Treviso: “The Senses of Culture.”
10. Union of Municipalities Valdichiana Senese (Siena): “Valdichiana 2026, seed of Italy.”
The race of the other cities that had submitted their candidacy in July, namely Bernalda (Matera), Carpi (Modena), Cleto (Cosenza), Cosenza, Lucca, Marcellinara (Catanzaro), Massa, Moliterno (Potenza), Nuoro, Potenza, Senigallia (Ancona), Todi (Perugia), Unione dei Comuni dei Monti Dauni (Foggia), Unione dei Comuni Terre dell’Olio e del Sagrantino (Perugia), Unione Montana dei Comuni della Valtiberina Toscana (Arezzo).
The finalists will be convened on March 4 and 5, 2024 for public hearings. This will be an opportunity for each candidate to explain their project in detail to the experts who will have to evaluate them. For each dossier, the hearings will last a maximum of 60 minutes, 30 of which will be for the presentation of the project and 30 for a session of questions carried out by the Jury.
The proclamation of the Italian Capital of Culture will be held by March 29, 2024. The winning city will be awarded a financial contribution of one million euros to concretize the objectives outlined in the candidacy project. This substantial funding will allow the ideas to be translated into concrete actions, resulting in an annual program to showcase the winner’s cultural richness and development prospects.
