In times of the Coronavirus emergency in which all museums and cultural venues are closed, according to the provisions of the Prime Minister’s Decree of March 8, museum venues throughout Italy have not given up.
Their common goal is to open their doors to reach every home through social media to spread art and culture during this difficult time: that is why they have launched on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram the #museichiusimuseiaperti campaign.
By following this hashtag, people can see and share images of works belonging to museum collections, digital stories made by curators and directors, learn curiosities related to environments and masterpieces, and even participate in guided tours. The intent is thus to live the museum experience from home as well.
There are many museums and places of culture in Italy that have so far joined the initiative: among them, the Pinacoteca di Brera, the Musei Reali in Turin, Villa Bernasconi, the Museo Egizio in Turin, the GAM in Milan, the Vittoriale degli Italiani, the Museo d’Arte Orientale in Venice, M9 in Mestre, The Tactile Museum in Varese, the Museo Archeologico in Ascoli Piceno, the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e Tecnologa Leonardo da Vinci in Milan, the Complesso della Pilotta in Parma, the Gallerie Estensi in Modena, the Palazzo Ducale in Mantua and many others.
The advice is to follow the hashtag @museichiusimuseiaperti on all social media to discover and learn more about our cultural heritage. And maybe prepare for the “real” visit to those museums when it’s all over.
