After months of forced closure due to the health emergency, Barcelona ’s Sagrada Familia reopened its doors yesterday: in fact, it was since mid-March that Antoni Gaudí ’s famous cathedral had not welcomed its visitors.
As a tribute to the medical staff and those dedicated to social work during this period of the Covid-19 emergency, during the first two weekends of the reopening (July 4 and 5, July 11 and 12) the latter will be able to visit the Sagrada Familia free of charge. In the second phase of reopening, free admission will be reserved for city residents: in small groups during July and August. Up to 125,000 Barcelona residents are expected to have free access to the cathedral until the end of the year. Online reservations already started on June 16 and within hours had already reached 37 thousand.
As for tourists, Spanish and international, the reopening is subject toworldwide epidemiological trends. However, the tour route will be one-way and with restricted entry: an average of about seven hundred people per round is expected, with six visitors per minute.
