More than 200 thousand new books donated by publishers to school libraries

220,000 new books donated by publishers to school libraries are arriving in schools, thanks to #ioleggoperché.

Starting this week, 220,000 new books donated by publishers will arrive in schools, thanks to #ioleggoperché, theItalian Publishers Association ’s (AIE) initiative to benefit school libraries.

With the delivery of the Publishers’ Contribution, consisting of the 120,000 new books donated to school libraries for this edition, which are in addition to the 100,000 from the previous edition that were blocked last March due to the onset of the pandemic and are being delivered today, the fifth edition of the project comes to a close: the Publishers’ Contribution packages from the 2020 and 2019 editions will be delivered to bookstores by the end of March, destined for schools that had already requested them, for one or both editions. And they will bring the total number of new books arrived in schools thanks to the initiative in its five editions to 1,388,000. An extraordinary number," stressed AIE President Ricardo Franco Levi, “with which to increase the supply of new books in school libraries. We are convinced of the role of schools, and of libraries in schools specifically, as the primary infrastructure of reading. It is on the basis of this conviction that, while recognizing that it was a very complex edition, even in its logistical part, due to various restrictions of movement and deliveries, #ioleggoperché had to take place, as an act of social responsibility and as a concrete sign of response to the needs of students and teachers. And this was thanks to the Ministry of Culture - Directorate General for Libraries and Copyright and Center for Books and Reading, and again in collaboration with the Ministry of Education - Directorate General for Students, Inclusion and School Orientation.”

Along with the books donated by publishers(here are the contributing publishers) will also be delivered the volumes of the Bank of Italy, which with #ioleggoperché has launched in 2019 a reading path to promote in young people a correct economic culture. As part of the financial education program in schools, launched with the Ministry of Education, University and Research, the Bank of Italy has produced a number of publications for schools in order to convey the content in a simple way. The Bank of Italy’s educational notebooks are booklets for primary and secondary schools of 1st and 2nd grades dedicated to money and alternative payment instruments to cash that help young people become familiar with the means of payment they have or will have to deal with in their daily lives. Also in the 2019 primary contribution packs is Mickey Mouse, in a special edition with a cartoon version ofTreasure Island, and a volume on nutrition for kids donated by Create Cures Foundation - Valter Longo Foundation.
