The Council of Ministers yesterday approved the support decree, which allocates additional aid for culture as well. The new support measures from which the sector will benefit are worth more than 1 billion euros: 200 million is being put in place to guarantee anextraordinary allowance of 2,400 euros for all entertainment workers, with an expanded pool of beneficiaries. In addition to performers and workers with at least seven working days and an income of less than 35,000 euros, those with at least 30 working days and an income of less than 75,000 euros will also be affected, unlike previous disbursements in which the maximum income eligible for subsidy was not to exceed 50,000 euros.
Still, 400 million euros are part of the package of measures for existing emergency funds, according to this breakdown: 80 million euros will be allocated to support state museums, 200 million euros to the current-part fund for the support of cinema and entertainment, and 120 million euros to the fund for the support of cultural enterprises and institutions. These resources will be able to provide additional support to operators and workers in these sectors.
Still, the suspension of authorization procedures by the Superintendencies for tables in bars, cafeterias and catering activities has been extended until December 31, 2021. Finally, from the Ministry of Culture, they recall that workers in the sector will also benefit from their share of the 11 billion euros allocated in favor of VAT numbers destined for operators and self-employed workers and the extension of the various forms of redundancy funds, which will go to support the income of employees in the cultural and entertainment sector as well. These are the latter resources (VAT numbers and cig) that bring the total amount of interventions for culture contained in the decree approved by the council of ministers to more than a billion.
“The Sostegni decree-law, launched today by the Council of Ministers,” comments Minister Dario Franceschini, “contains important measures for the world of culture, which add more than a billion euros to the resources allocated so far to support a sector hard hit by the pandemic. Entertainment, cinema and museums are suffering greatly from the continuing closure imposed by the measures to contain the contagion and deserve every support, because they express a considerable part of our identity.”
