The green light is given to the project for the conservation overhaul of the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio, by the City’s Fine Arts Service and financed thanks to a liberal disbursement from the company Pramac, as part of the Florence I care plan. The project, approved at the last council meeting in 2022 with a resolution by Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture Alessia Bettini, involves checking the health of the ceiling and architectural elements of the Salone and intervening where necessary to restore its original beauty.
The work will be carried out while the museum is open and will be aimed at verifying the state of conservation of the painted wooden panels, the stone or stucco architectural elements and the stone or stucco surfaces that characterize the decorative architectural apparatus of the Salone dei Cinquecento and adjoining monumental rooms, and to carry out the removal of the inconsistent deposits present. It will begin with acognitive scientific investigation: a mapping of the state of conservation will be carried out. The intervention will also include the securing of detached fragments, whether or not retained by metal restraints or close to the detachment of stringcourses or ornamented surfaces of stone or stucco architectural elements; in case the operation does not present executive difficulties related to the state of preservation of the artifact, the reattachment of the fragment will be carried out. The total cost of the project is 40 thousand euros.
The goal is to devote to the complex whole of the ceiling of the Hall an activity of periodic reconnaissance of the state of preservation, aimed at preventing the development of deterioration phenomena, planning in time any necessary restoration work.
“Once again thanks to the synergy between the public and private sectors we are going to intervene to protect our heritage, this time for the Salone dei Cinquecento, the most imposing and historically and artistically important room in Palazzo Vecchio,” commented Deputy Mayor Bettini. “A close monitoring with the aim of monitoring the conservation of architectural elements and avoiding possible situations of degradation, for an always optimal use of these spaces by visitors.”
