Carabinieri from the Heritage Protection Unit have opened aninvestigation to ascertain whether some of the paintings on display at the Modigliani exhibition in Genoa’s Palazzo Ducale are fakes, as reported in recent days by art collector Carlo Pepi. Carabinieri have already acquired documents on the works, both those from Italian and European museums and those from private collections.
Meanwhile, Palazzo Ducale issued a note to the press, also published on its Facebook page, through which, together with MondoMostre Skira (which co-produced the exhibition), it let it know that it considered the opening of the investigation useful and that it would lend its full cooperation to the investigating bodies. Palazzo Ducale also affirmed that “the documentation in its possession confirms the authenticity of all the works in the exhibition, which, moreover, have already been exhibited and published in catalogs raisonné and in catalogs of other international exhibitions with a plurality of different curators.” He also let it be known that in the coming days the curator of the exhibition, Rudy Chiappini, will be in Genoa to “illustrate the choices made.”
