More collaborations between Italian museums and Saudi museums. After the MANN in Naples and after the agreement between Matera and Al-Ula, Triennale di Milano and the Commission for Museums of Saudi Arabia have in fact signed an agreement to strengthen relations between the two countries, with a special focus on design, architecture and the enhancement of cultural heritage.
The agreement, signed by Triennale Milano Director General Carla Morogallo and the interim CEO of the Museums Commission, Ibrahim Alsanousi, is among the protocols signed during Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s official visit to Saudi Arabia.
The agreement aims to develop a series of joint activities that will enhance the cultural identity and artistic heritage of the two countries. Meanwhile, the Triennale will offer its scientific support for the development and creation of a museum dedicated to design in the Saudi kingdom, with the aim of creating a cultural hub of reference for the country. Exhibitions dedicated to Italian design and architecture in Saudi Arabia and vice versa are also planned, to promote a mutual understanding of the two countries’ artistic and design traditions. Still, the partnership will include the creation of training programs for students, professionals and cultural workers, with dedicated workshops and seminars. Finally, the organization of international events on topics such as innovation, design and cultural heritage will aim to strengthen the dialogue between the two countries.
Stefano Boeri, president of Triennale Milano, expressed satisfaction with the signing of the agreement, calling it an important step toward the creation of projects that combine tradition and innovation. For his part, Ibrahim Alsanousi stressed the strategic value of the collaboration.
The partnership between Triennale Milano and the Saudi Arabian Museums Commission is part of a broader framework of understandings signed during Giorgia Meloni’s visit. These agreements, which range from economic-commercial to cultural sectors, reflect the two countries’ joint commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. In particular, the memorandum of understanding between the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Saudi Ministry of Culture aims to lay the groundwork for increasingly close cultural cooperation, with the goal of enhancing cultural heritage through the sharing of expertise and resources.
The agreement with Triennale Milano is part of Vision 2030, the Saudi strategic plan to diversify the country’s economy and promote cultural and tourism development.
