Milan's Peace Arch will be the world's first monument in the Metaverse

Reasoned Art, an Italian start-up benefit company dedicated to cryptoart and enabled by blockchain technology, brings the world’s first monument to the Metaverse. On Dec. 30, Dec. 31, 2021 and Jan. 1, 2022, the international collective Ouchhh coveredMilan’s Arco della Pace with an innovative 360-degree data sculpture, transforming one of the Lombard capital’s iconic monuments into animmersive work of art. The AI Dataportal_Arch of Light work, which includes a VR experience, will become an NFT: the Arch of Peace will thus be the world’s first monument ever to enter the Metaverse.

Created in collaboration with the Milan ABAP Superintendency and under the patronage of the City of Milan, the project was created with the intention of wrapping the Arch of Peace in an embrace of light. Through a stream of images generated by an artificial intelligence system, AI Dataportal_Arch of Light has covered the Arch of Peace with a second skin that is constantly changing. For this occasion, artists configured an AI capable of reinterpreting and giving new life to more than 20,000 works of art, created by more than 320 artists, belonging to the most diverse artistic periods, from Byzantine art to contemporary Italian art. Included within the work are annual data from the Italian firmament map collected by NASA and our entire digitized literary heritage belonging to a time span of more than 1,700 years.

The installation was on Dec. 30 and Jan. 1; on Dec. 31 it was streamed on Reasoned Art’s Youtube, Facebook and Instragram channels. Each cycle of images lasted eleven minutes, anticipated by a five-minute countdown.

The AI Dataportal_Arch of Light work will later be transformed into NFT by inserting itself into a project to enhance Italian cultural heritage. The proceeds from this project will be used to create an educational space for reflection, discussion and experimentation on the themes of digital art, science and technology, in line with existing European projects such as S+T+ARTS and New European Bauhaus. In fact, the project is designed to benefit young artists, curators and art enthusiasts who will be awarded scholarships that will cover the entire cost of an educational course involving the best professionals in the field and focused on preparing students for the job needs within the art world in the near future.
