MiBACT Minister Dario Franceschini signed a decree initiating procedures to allocate 50 million euros to support non-state museums and cultural venues. “In full compliance with Article 9 of the Constitution,” the minister said, "the state is intervening to help the many cultural realities spread throughout the territory that, together with MiBACT museums, make up the national museum system, guardian of Italy’s cultural heritage and powerful attractor of quality tourism. These are cultural realities that are experiencing a very difficult time and must find maximum support from the institutions."
The resources will be allocated to civic museums, diocesan museums and other non-state public or legal entity museums and places of culture that will apply according to the deadlines and in the manner that will be published on the website of the General Directorate of Museums. They will be distributed among the applicants in proportion to the lower income from ticket sales in the period from March 1 to May 31, 2020 compared to the same period in 2019.
