Mario Perniola, philosopher as well as scholar of contemporary art, has passed away at the age of 76. Born in Asti on May 20, 1941, Perniola studied at the University of Turin, where he met Umberto Eco and Gianni Vattimo, under the guidance of Luigi Pareyson.
He was professor of aesthetics at the University of Salerno from 1970 to 1983 and later at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” and directed the Study and Documentation Center “Language and Thought” and the journal of cultural studies and aesthetics Agalma.
He wrote and published about 30 essays, the last of which, titled "Contemporary Italian Aesthetics," was published just in 2017.
