Mantua: lack of janitors and Ducal Palace remains closed

One of the main museums in the city of Mantua, the Ducal Palace, despite the large influx of tourists who were eager to visit and admire the beauty of the museum site, remained closed today, on Easter Monday.

The director of the Doge’s Palace in Mantua, Peter Assmann, replied that when a state museum’s day off falls on a public holiday, it can only open if there are enough custodians. About 20 are needed, but less than half were available.

The unions accused the director of not properly scheduling shifts for the Easter holiday, but Assmann again said he was simply applying the law.
