The MAN museum in Nuoro is celebrating its 20th anniversary and from Friday, Feb. 8 to Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, offers the public three days dedicated to discovering the institution’s future and past since its founding in 1999.
The historic building in Piazza Satta, a new acquisition of the museum that will host temporary exhibitions and staff offices in the coming months, will be exceptionally opened, setting up a double exhibition inside in the form of a multimedia narrative. The public will embark on a journey of discovery of the future layout through the use of augmented reality produced and designed by Nuoro-based studio Inoke.
A second part of the exhibition, curated by artist Daniela Frongia, will trace the museum’s activities from 1999 to the present through invitations, posters, postcards, as well as video and photographic materials, transforming the space into a Wunderkammer dedicated to MAN. The Sardinian artist works earth, fibers, wood and pigments to create forms that baste dialogues with her own inner universe and the world around her.
MAN’s permanent collection consists of a rich body of works including drawings, paintings, sculptures and films, which best encapsulates Sardinia’s artistic production from the early 20th century to the present day.
The museum has always been attentive to modern and contemporary artistic research in the global arena, a central aspect in its 20 years of activity.
Until March 3, 2019, three exhibitions set up inside the museum are open to the public: Sabir, the first solo exhibition in Italy by Israeli artist Dor Guez; the first Italian solo exhibition Sogno d’oltremare by François-Xavier Gbré; and the group show O Youth and Beauty! by artists Anna Bjerger, Louis Fratino, and Waldemar Zimbelmann.
