Luigi La Rocca will lead the General Directorate of Archaeology Fine Arts and Landscape and the PNRR Superintendency


Luigi La Rocca has been appointed Director General of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape to head the Special Superintendency for the PNRR.

Mario Draghi, upon the proposal of Culture Minister Dario Franceschini, appointed Luigi La Rocca as Director General of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape to head the Special Superintendency for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Current Superintendent of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the City of Naples, La Rocca succeeds Federica Galloni.

“In thanking Federica Galloni for the important work she has done throughout her career in the roles of the Ministry of Culture,” said Minister Franceschini, “and in particular in fulfilling her’’last assignment as Director General for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape and as Special Superintendent for the PNRR, I wish Luigi La Rocca every success in the role he has just assumed, which entails the demanding challenge of combining the protection of cultural heritage and landscape with the country’s development needs.”



Born in 1967, from 2016 to 2019 he was director of the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the metropolitan city of Bari; in 2019 he was acting director of the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the provinces of Andria-Barletta-Trani and Foggia; from 2015 to 2016 Acting Superintendent of Archaeology of Apulia and formerly Acting Superintendent of Archaeology of Calabria, Acting Superintendent of the Museo Nazioale preistorico ed etnografioc Pigorini in Rome, Acting Superintendent of the National Museum of Oriental Art Tucci in Rome, Staff Archaeologist Director of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner for the Archaeological Areas of Rome and Ostia Antica.

A member of scientific committees, La Rocca was awarded in 2018 for the restoration work on the Early Christian Basilica of Siponto with the Special Award for Commissioning - Gold Medal for Italian Architecture. He has also supervised numerous restoration, recovery and enhancement works; he has been lecturer and speaker at many scientific conferences and seminars and author of publications.
