A statue portraying the noble wife of Emperor Augustus, Livia Drusilla, popped up yesterday morning in Rome’s Imperial Forums. The appearance of the new sculpture aroused no small amount of interest among passersby who wondered who had made it and why it had been placed so suddenly, and it was the subject of many shots.
The statue is loosely inspired by the sculpture depicting Livia as Opi/Cerere, goddess of fertility (she is in fact holding a cornucopia and ears of wheat) kept in the Louvre in Paris.
The mystery has since been unraveled: this is but a way to promote a new Sky Original series that will kick off on May 14 centered on the figure of Livia. Domina, this is the title of the Sky series, will tell the story of the woman, mother of Tiberius and Augusta of the Empire, in a combination of epic drama and contemporary tale. Playing Livia Drusilla will be Kasia Smutniak.
