In a note the vice-president of the Culture Commission of the Lazio Region, Marta Leonori, announced that today the Lazio Regional Council approved the bill of which she was the promoter on “Provisions for the enhancement, promotion and dissemination of Street Art.” “The law, the second in Italy after the one in Puglia,” Leonori points out, "was born out of a discussion with some of the protagonists of street art, an art form that in its translation means “street art” but that has, among its main functions and objectives, something greater: the transformation, redevelopment and enhancement of urban spaces in a cultural and social key. With an allocation of 500,000 euros in total for the years 2021 and 2022 to grant contributions aimed at the realization of works, the law stipulates that municipalities will annually draw up a list of assets and spaces available in their respective territories, to be used for street art interventions. The same municipalities can also identify ’free walls’ for free artistic expression. The lists will be available online in the institutional web portals of the municipalities and on regional websites.“ ”The Region,“ the vice president continues, ”is committed to promoting and enhancing, also for tourism purposes, street art interventions carried out in the regional territory, through its own communication channels and in a catalog created on a digital platform shared and populated in agreement with the municipalities, and through the Lazio Street Art award. Street Art has also been included among the actions of the new EU 2021-27 programming in the guidelines that the Council will approve in the coming days. I am very pleased with the approval of this law, because I am convinced that the requalification of our cities also passes through unconventional, participatory and integrated initiatives in the territory, which put positive cultural and social energies into circulation. In our region we already have several examples, which are daily increasing, renewing, changing, as well as attracting new flows of tourists. With the law we wanted to support and reaffirm public, participatory, collective and community-related art, starting with this art form that I have personally been following for years and have had the opportunity to appreciate also thanks to important artists and territorial promotion initiatives."
