The result comes at the end of a selection made by a jury of experts chaired by Marino Sinibaldi, president of the Center for Books and Reading, and composed of Gerardo Casale, Stefano Eco, Cristina Loglio and Valentina Sonzini.

This is the motivation: “Among the other proposals, all of remarkable quality and deserving of attention, Ivrea’s candidacy stands out for its ability to network the multiple energies of the territory, to open itself to the international dimension, and to propose itself as a place where the future of books and reading is imagined. The city’s extraordinary cultural and technological heritage is claimed without any parochial pride but as a driving force of the capital city project and as the inspiration of a vision that can become a model that is up to our times. Attention to the new digital dimensions of the cultural experience represents a further element of strength that will be made available not only to the local community. Finally, attention to communication activities can make the title of Book Capital City increasingly meaningful, helping to point to culture, and in particular book and reading culture, as an element of cohesion and sharing for our communities grappling with the wounds of the pandemic.”

In time it will become clear that it is also a title to have been a finalist. Therefore, I thank the mayors of the municipalities of Aliano, Barletta, Costa di Rovigo, Nola, Pescara, Pistoia, and Pordenone for participating: all of them will be able to boast the title of having been selected in the short list, on a par with Ivrea, which won.”
