2017 saw a record 50 million visitors to Italian museums, a record that already seemed extremely high, and instead will possibly be broken this year.

"A result amplified by the increasing presence of the MiBACT and autonomous museums on social through the @museitaliani accounts," the Ministry of Cultural Heritage note specifies, "a vehicle for the monthly campaigns that invite the public to photograph and relaunch on social media images of works in state collections linked to a proposed theme, which for this month of May will be design with the hashtag #artdesign."
Tuscany is the region with the largest increase in visitors between January and March in state museums, monuments and archaeological areas, with a +43 percent growth in admissions, while Lazio confirms its supremacy with 4,770,410 tickets taken out, +31 percent compared to the same period in 2017. The ranking by percentage of growth sees Tuscany first with +43.44%, Lazio second with +30.89%, Puglia third with +23.15%, Friuli Venezia Giulia fourth with +19.17% andUmbria fifth with 16.75%.
