Remains of an ancient focacceria were found during excavation work in Himera, Palermo.

During excavations carried out by theUniversity of Bern, thanks to an agreement with the Palermo Regional Pole for Archaeological Parks and Museums, the remains of anancient focacceria were discovered in the ancient Greek colony of Himera in the Palermo area.

Discovered a compartment that was used as a larder for foodstuffs, namely for wheat, water, oil, wine. And it is assumed that pizzas and flatbreads were also prepared here for a large number of people, as stoves, pots and pans were found.



The excavations were carried out by a team of eleven people under the guidance of Professor Elena Mango of the University of Bern and the supervision of the director of the Archaeological Pole of Palermo, Francesca Spatafora, and the head of the Himera Park, Maria Rosa Panzica.
