Back at the Labirinto della Masone is the annual Under the Bamboo Tree, an event dedicated to bamboo that, now in its ninth edition, will take shape on the weekend of Saturday, October 12 and Sunday, October 13, 2024. The purpose of Under the Bamboo Tree is to open the doors of the green maze to all curious visitors, who again this year will have the opportunity to discover, in addition to the Labyrinth, the second adjacent park, namely the Hidden Park, now home to the Franco Maria Ricci Foundation and Franco Maria Ricci Editore. Inspired by the ancient Roman form of the classical labyrinths, but reworked by introducing forks and dead ends here and there, the Labyrinth houses bamboo plants of some 20 different species, between 30 centimeters and 15 meters tall. The choice of this plant is obviously not accidental; Franco Maria Ricci was an enthusiastic admirer of it. Bamboo, in fact, grows and propagates at an astonishing speed, does not lose its leaves and, because of its impatient growth, absorbs large amounts of carbon dioxide, releasing just as much oxygen.
The Hidden Park, in addition to being the home of the Foundation, the Publishing House and the rich library housing some 15,000 volumes of art history, is also the place that hosted the walks of Ricci and Jorge Luis Borges in the 1970s. It was among these sheltered paths, in the shade of plants that are custodians of past histories, that the idea of the Labyrinth of the Masone, the result of dialogues between Borges and his publisher, germinated. Visitors will be guided by an exclusive map, a key to unveil the hidden treasures of the park accompanied by a small literary and imaginative anthology to enrich their exploration with precious suggestions. Access to the Hidden Park is included in the entrance ticket to the Labyrinth of the Masone, which includes the bamboo maze, a visit to the art collections and the temporary exhibition BERTOZZI & CASONI. It’s not what it seems.
