After being exhibited at the exhibition"The Invisible Image" held at the National Archaeological Museum in Paestum from June 3 to October 7, 2018, the gold laminetta from Hipponion has returned home to the “Vito Capialbi” National Archaeological Museum in Vibo Valentia, which is housed in the Norman Swabian Castle.
The laminetta was found in a tomb in ancient Hipponion and dates back to the 4th century BC.
This was placed on the chest of the deceased to accompany their soul to the realm of Hades. In this case the laminetta would have accompanied a maiden from a noble family.
The golden lamin etta is a very significant evidence of the cult of mystery religions in Calabria: it is in fact an Orphic laminetta.
The “Vito Capialbi” National Archaeological Museum in Vibo Valentia, directed by Adele Bonofiglio, is part of the Polo Museale della Calabria, headed by Angela Acordon.
