Starting January 30, 2019, it is possible to admire the Borghetto’s Virgin of the Rocks inside the church of San Michele del Dosso, on the premises of the congregation of the Ursuline Sisters of San Carlo in Milan.
It is a faithful copy of Leonardo’s original attributed to Francesco Melzi and made probably between 1517 and 1520.
The painting depicts the Virgin Mary, kneeling in the center of the scene, the archangel Gabriel protecting the infant Jesus with his arm and pointing to the little Saint John; the latter is in the act of prayer facing the Child. Jesus is seated in the foreground and is depicted making the gesture of blessing toward the little Saint John.
The leading figures in the painting have a rocky landscape in the background, created with an extraordinary illusion of depth.
The tour is exclusively guided and lasts half an hour (minimum 3 - maximum 15 people). Visits in English and Japanese are possible upon request (minimum 3 participants). Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance.
