The Great Art at the Movies offers, only on March 25, 26 and 27, 2019, the screening in Italian cinemas of the docu-film Gauguin in Tahiti. Paradise Lost.

Directed by Claudio Poli, based on a subject by Marco Goldin and Matteo Moneta, who also signs the screenplay, and produced by 3D Produzioni and Nexo Digital with the support of Intesa Sanpaolo, the film event will retrace the stages of a biography that now belongs to myth and of a finely primordial painting. Viewers will be taken on a journey through the places Gauguin chose as his chosen home and through the great American museums where his most celebrated masterpieces are housed: New York with the Metropolitan Museum, Chicago with the Chicago Art Institute, Washington with the National Gallery of Art, and Boston with the Museum of Fine Arts.

International experts will speak, including Mary Morton, curator at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, Gloria Groom, curator at the Art Institute of Chicago, Judy Sund, professor at New York City University, Belinda Thomson, the foremost expert on Gauguin, David Haziot, author of the most up-to-date and accredited biography on Gauguin. The original score is by composer and pianist Remo Anzovino.

The narrative will also be accompanied by Gauguin’s own words, with excerpts from autobiographical texts (such as Noa Noa or Avant et après), letters to family and friends, and to his wife Mette, to whom Paul wrote: “There will come a day, and soon, when I will take refuge in the forest on an island in the Ocean to live by art, following my inspiration in peace. Surrounded by a new family, far from this European struggle for money. In Tahiti, in the silence of tropical nights, I will be able to listen to the gentle, persuasive rhythm of my heart in harmony with the mysterious presences around me. Free, unencumbered by money, I will be able to love, to sing, to die.”

La Grande Arte al Cinema is an original and exclusive project of Nexo Digital, distributed exclusively in Italy by Nexo Digital with media partners Radio Capital, Sky Arte and MYmovies.it.
