GAM's Palermo painting collection available on Google Arts & Culture

Thanks to the digitization of works, Palermo's GAM is making its pictorial collection available online.

The collection of paintings of GAM - Galleria d’Arte Moderna Empedocle Restivo in Palermo lands on Google Arts & Culture. In fact, more than 190 paintings and four exhibition routes are available on artsandculture.google.com.

Following the digitization of 192 works, to which the remaining works in the collection will be added in the coming months, it is already possible to admire online paintings such as Francesco Lojacono’s Veduta di Palermo, Antonino Leto’s La raccolta delle olive, Giovanni Boldini’s Femme aux gants, Franz Von Stuck’s Sin, Mario Sironi’s Il streetcar, Felice Casorati’s Gli scolari, and Renato Guttuso’sSelf-portrait.

Also on view are four exhibition routes, such as The Birth of the Gallery of Modern Art, Sicily and the Mediterranean Landscape, Works from the Venice Biennials, and The Italian Novecento.

The former traces, from a historical, social and artistic point of view, the fundamental moments that led to the inauguration of the “Empedocle Restivo” Gallery of Modern Art in 1910; the latter is intended to be a journey through the 19th century through the works of its greatest Sicilian interpreters: from Francesco Lojacono to Antonino Leto, the latter a great friend of the Florios, to Ettore De Maria Bergler, an eclectic artist and protagonist of the most important decorative episodes of Art Nouveau Palermo, and finally Michele Catti, in whose canvases the landscape becomes a state of mind.

Works from the Venice Biennials intends to narrate the presence of the Gallery of Modern Art since the 1907 edition of the Biennale; among the paintings that were exhibited in the lagoon are Von Stuck’s Sin and Boldini’s Femme aux gants.
Finally, Novecento Italiano is proposed as a journey into the short century, analyzing the repercussions on coeval art movements.
