European Capital of Culture 2020 will be Galway, one ofIreland’s major cities.

Thus, from February 2020 until the end of January 2021, a rich program of events is planned that will have language, landscape and migration as key themes and will be marked by theancient Celtic calendar divided into Imbolc, Bealtaine, Lughnasa and Samhain, similar to our seasons.

The theme of linguaggo aims to promote the variety of languages spoken in Europe and Galway; language fosters acceptance and welcome. The landscape theme, in this case of the western end of Europe, shows how rural and seascape are coexistent. Finally, the theme of migration celebrates the cultural diversity of Europe in the context of Galway city and territory.

The events will lead to the discovery of Galway’s native artists and explore how European artists have given their interpretation to the basic themes of Galway 2020.

In Galway 2020’s vision is the creation of new ways of thinking, new ways of working, new ways of dialogue, and the creation of new partnerships aimed at increasing thecreative aspect of the city. It will be a year of performances, exhibitions, readings, concerts, dance, theater, projects, meetings, folklore: more than 1900 events, 154 projects, 170 partnerships and collaboration with local, national, European and international artists and cultural organizations from more than 30 different countries.
