On Jan. 15 and 16, Turin City Councilor for Culture Francesca Leon will travel to the Marche region to visit some of the municipalities in the Sibillini Museum Network as a result of fundraising efforts made for the “Adopt a Museum” initiative, the crowdfunding campaign promoted by Icom Italia to support cultural institutions affected by the earthquake in August 2016.
The city of Turin has pledged 26,000 euros, all part of the proceeds that museums in Turin collected after August 24, 2016, adhering to the national “Museum4Italy” appeal promoted by Mibact.
These funds will be used to support the Sibillini Museum Network and allow for a calendar of afternoon activities in municipalities where museums are closed with educational workshops for children and youth. The activities will begin in February.
“A due act of solidarity in favor of the cultural activities of a territory battered by the calamity,” said Councillor, Daniela Tisi, director of the Sibillini Museum Network, emphasizing the sensitivity and generosity shown by the city and museums of Turin.
“This ’adoption,’” Tisi continued, “will allow for continuity of work for the operators and at the same time reemphasize the social and educational role that the museum can and should have. As museums await the reopening of their venues, they will continue to fulfill their social function. Even more exciting is that this help to struggling museums in the Marche region is coming from other cultural institutions.”
