Minister of Cultural Heritage Alberto Bonisoli announced the allocation of 180 million euros to carry out 595 interventions on Italy’s cultural heritage: this is the 2019-2020 programming of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage’s Protection Fund, financed with resources derived from the 2015 Stability Law. Among the interventions to be carried out in 2019 are the enhancement and restoration of the decorations of the Pompeian rooms at the Royal Palace (Naples), the securing of the facades and roofs of Castel dell’Ovo in Naples, the restoration of the facades of the National Archaeological Museum in Naples, the refurbishment of the National Archaeological Museum of Parma at the Pilotta complex, the new lighting system of the Miramare Park in Trieste, the securing of the Crypta Balbi in Rome, the restoration of Villa Durazzo in Santa Margherita Ligure, the restoration of the basilica of San Lorenzo in Milan, the restoration of the interior facades of the courtyard of honor of the Pinacoteca di Brera, the securing and restoration of the urban section of the Medici Aqueduct in Pisa, the restoration of the flooded Medici judicial archives in Florence, the securing of the facades and roofs of the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Siena, and the restoration of the facades and coats of arms of the courtyard of the Bargello Museum.
The following year will see the start of other works such as the protection and restoration of the archaeological remains at the foot of the cliff of Canossa, the improvement of the fruition and new interior lighting of the Mausoleum of Theodoric in Ravenna, the works there structural consolidation and seismic improvement of the Pilotta in Parma, the restoration of the historic kitchens of the Castle of Miramare in Trieste, the restoration of the Roman villa in Sirmione, the restoration of the stone surfaces of the Pinacoteca di Brera, the securing of the roofs of the Villa Medicea in Poggio a Caiano, the refurbishment of the archaeological deposits of Carsulae, the plant upgrading of the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria in Perugia, the restoration of the portico of the Procuratie Nuove in Venice, and the construction of the air conditioning system of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice.
“A focus on heritage in need of protection interventions,” said Minister Bonisoli, “and which is the result of a timely reconnaissance work in the territories, through the involvement of all the peripheral institutes of the Ministry. Among the priorities are the restoration of cultural heritage, particularly those affected by natural disasters; the recovery of degraded landscape areas, prevention against systemic and environmental risks, but also energy efficiency and improving accessibility, understood as a goal for participation and social inclusion.”
The two-year planning includes more than 17, 6 million euros for urgent and unforeseen works, particularly in the Archives sector, and the availability of useful sums for the co-financing of Art Bonus projects, i.e., those that have obtained economic support through the patronage of private individuals.
