In addition to the coveted title of Italian Capital of Culture, which each year sees the candidacy of several Italian cities, the waiting of the ten finalists and finally the proclamation of the winner who gets one million euros for the realization of its project aimed at showcasing its original features and the factors that determine its cultural development, understood as an engine for the growth of the entire community, from 2024 another Italian city will compete for the title of Italian Capital of Contemporary Art.

The title will be awarded annually by the Council of Ministers to an Italian city “on the basis of a special selection procedure defined by decree of the Minister of Culture.” This is according to an amendment approved by the Senate Budget Committee. The city named as the winner will be awarded the sum of one million euros for interventions in the creation and redevelopment of areas and spaces intended for the enjoyment ofcontemporary art. For the purpose of the implementation of this provision, an expenditure of one million euros per year from the year 2024 will then be authorized.
