Electa publishing house celebrates its 80th birthday with the birth of Fondamenta, a foundation dedicated to art and culture education. Fondamenta is based on Electa’s extensive experience in curating publishing projects, enhancing heritage, and organizing exhibitions and cultural events. Fondamenta will engage in educational and cultural projects aimed at institutions and communities, helping to build a constructive dialogue between past, present and future. With this new commitment, Electa intends to confirm its leading role in the promotion and dissemination of culture and thus reaffirm the importance of cultural education that is open and accessible to all.
The name “Fondamenta” recalls the review of the same name conceived by writer Daniele Del Giudice between 1999 and 2003 in Venice. This review put the public in contact with world-renowned intellectuals and artists, distinguishing itself as the first review in favor of reading and reflection on current affairs, bringing cultural debates and high-level performance events to the square. In fact, Fondamenta became a model for future cultural festivals such as those organized every year throughout Italy.
The new foundation aims to keep alive the original spirit of the Venetian festival, creating opportunities for cultural sharing that celebrate the meeting of high and popular culture. Fondamenta aims to promote principles of peaceful coexistence, inclusiveness and creativity, ideals that reflect the best of our “Western atlas,” as Del Giudice put it.
Carlotta Branzanti, director of the Foundation, said, “Fondamenta is the landing point of a cultural adventure that has united a group of people who have frequented, thought about, and worked at Electa over the years. From these resonant agreements came the intuition that built the perspective and enabled the leap. Fondamenta will carry out educational and cultural projects for institutions and communities; it will be at the same time a place for experimental and broad thinking to make synthesis between our cultural heritage, the conflicts and rifts of the present, and visions of the future.”
The launch of www.fondazionefondamenta.it will be accompanied by issue zero of FM. Fondamenta Magazine, which will act as an amplifier of cultural debate, like a radio tuned to the dialogue between eccentric voices of the Italian cultural scene. The magazine will represent a “laboratory” of ideas and projects, highlighting experimental thinking and future visions.
