On Saturday, August 31, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Florence's La Specola Museum will provide free admission and guided tours for Arrivederci Specola. Closure for redevelopment work.

La Specola Museum, Florence’s natural history museum, is organizing Arriverderci Specola, a day of free admission and guided tours with specialized guides, for Saturday, August 31, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The initiative aims to celebrate the museum complex before the redevelopment work that will begin in September and will last for about a year and a half. During the work, La Specola Museum will be closed. The interventions will affect the historical location in Palazzo Torrigiani.

During the day it will be possible to visit the zoological collections, anatomical waxes, Galileo’s tribune and the permanent Mineraliter exhibition, and, by reservation only, the astronomical tower, skeleton hall and entomological study collections will be open.

Upon completion of the redevelopment work, which is expected to cost about five million euros, the museum will house the mineralogy and lithology collection, now not visible to the public and housed in Via La Pira.
