Near Ponte Milvio in Rome, during work on the placement of an electrical cable carried out last year, buildings dating from the 1st to the 4th century were uncovered.
The excavations were completed today thanks to the Special Superintendence of Rome.
There are still no precise ideas about the use of these buildings: perhaps they were used for worship or commercial activities.
Superintendent Prosperetti said, “We are in front of the overlapping of two phases: the first, dating back to the 1st century and testifying to the existence of productive activities and exchange of goods, was replaced in the 3rd century by another valuable building that is characterized by marbles and decorations. An important structure of which we do not know the destination.”
