All the prizes of the 77th Venice Film Festival were awarded today by the four international juries. The jury was chaired by Cate Blanchett and composed of Matt Dillon, Veronika Franz, Joanna Hogg, Nicola Lagioia, Christian Petzold and Ludivine Sagnier. Below are all the awards.
The Golden Lion for Best Film goes to Nomadland by Chloé Zhao (USA). Silver Lion - Grand Jury Prize to Michel Franco’s Nuevo Orden (Mexico, France). The Silver Lion for Best Director goes to Kiyoshi Kurosawa for the film Spy no tsuma (“Wife of a Spy”) (Japan). Special Jury Prize to Dorogie tovarischi (“Dear Comrades”) by Andrei Konchalovsky (Russia). Best screenplay to Chaitanya Tamhane for The disciple (India). Volpi Cup for best female performance to Vanessa Kirby for the film Pieces of a woman by Kornél Mundruczó (Canada, Hungary). Coppa Volpi for best male performance to Pierfrancesco Favino for the film Padrenostro by Claudio Noce (Italy). Marcello Mastroianni Award for best emerging actor or actress to Rouhollah Zamani in the film Khorshid(Sun children) by Majid Majidi (Iran).
The Horizons Jury, chaired by Claire Denis and composed of Oskar Alegria, Francesca Comencini, Katriel Schory and Christine Vachon, after viewing the 19 feature films and 12 short films in competition, awarded the Horizons Prize for Best Film to Dashte Khamoush (“The Wasteland”) by Ahmad Bahrami (Iran). The Horizons Award for Best Director goes to Lav Diaz for the film Lahi, Hayop (“Genus Pan”) (Philippines). Special Jury Horizons Award to Listen by Ana Rocha de Sousa (UK, Portugal). The Horizons Award for Best Screenplay goes to Pietro Castellitto for the film I Predatori (Italy). The Horizons Award for best female performance goes to Khansa Batma in the film Zanka Contact by Ismaël El Iraki (France, Morocco, Belgium). The Horizons Award for best male performance goes to Yahya Mahayni in the film The man who sold his skin by Kaouther Ben Hania (Tunisia, France, Germany, Belgium, Sweden). The Horizons Award for best short film goes to Entre tú y milagros by Mariana Saffon (Colombia, USA). The Venice Short Film Nomination for the European Film Awards 2020 is instead for The Shift by Laura Carreira (UK, Portugal).
Finally, the Venice VR Expanded Jury, chaired by Céline Tricart and composed of Asif Kapadia and Hideo Kojima, after viewing the 31 competing projects, awarded the virtual reality prizes. The Grand Jury Prize for best immersive VR work goes to The hangman at home - An immersive single user experience by Michelle and Uri Kranot (Denmark, France, Canada). The Award for Best Immersive VR Experience goes to Finding Pandora X by Kiira Benzing (USA). Finally, the Award for Best Immersive VR Story goes to Sha si da ming xing (“Killing a superstar”) by Fan Fan (China).
