Fifteen museums in Milan land on Google Arts & Culture

Fifteen museums in Milan land on Google Arts & Culture from today. Satisfaction from Councilor Filippo Del Corno.

On Google Arts & Culture it is now possible to virtually visit 15 museums in Milan: Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna, Castello Sforzesco, Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano, Biblioteca Sormani, MUDEC - Museo delle Culture, Museo di Storia Naturale, Museo del Novecento, Hangar Bicocca, Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Associazione Viafarini - Fabbrica del Vapore, Quadrilatero della Bellezza - Gruppo MilanoCard, That’s Contemporary, Ca’ Granda - Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, Casa Museo Poldi Pezzoli, Rainlab.

The initiative is part of the “Grow with Google Milano” project, a collaboration between Google and the aforementioned museums that aims to offer interactive exhibitions, including one called "Milan City of Art," and free digital marketing seminars aimed at local businesses and the city’s cultural institutions that will be held between Oct. 2 and 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Columns of Palazzo Giureconsulti. Here interactive screens will show details of the works in Milan’s museums while Cardboard and Daydream virtual reality viewers will allow for a more immersive exploration.

In total, Google has collected 2,700 images captured in very high resolution with Art Camera depicting 320 works among those on display in the museums that have joined the initiative. Culture Councillor Filippo Del Corno explains, “The wealth of Milan’s artistic heritage now has another prestigious channel, digital and therefore global, to make itself known to the public around the world. The project allows for a constructive and participatory approach to new media, ensuring a greater dissemination of knowledge, of our history, and of all the beauty we treasure.”

Roberta Cocco, Councillor for Digital Transformation and Civic Services of the Municipality of Milan, commented, “We were pleased to sponsor this initiative, which has the goal, strongly shared by this Municipal Administration, of spreading digital culture through targeted projects aimed at citizens and businesses. The true digital transformation of a country cannot disregard strong and continuous actions of digital education, which involve institutions, businesses and schools managing to reach all segments of the population in a capillary manner. Added to this is the beautiful initiative to digitize works of art: an excellent example of how digital can break down barriers by making the beauty of art available to everyone, without distinction.”
