Fendi restores six historic halls of the French Academy in Rome

Six historic halls of the Villa Medici-French Academy in Rome have been restored and refitted by Fendi, with the support of Mobilier National.

Six salons of the Villa Medici-French Academy in Rome have been restored and refurbished by Fendi, with the support of Mobilier National, the French organization that supports arts and crafts and conservation. The project was signed by Kim Jones, artistic director Couture and women’s line of the fashion house, and Silvia Venturini Fendi, artistic director accessories and men’s line, with the support of the Fendi Architecture department.

The fulcrum of the entire project is color: the original tones of the wall paintings were used as inspiration for the choice of the palette of each room, which can be found especially in the three hand-knotted carpets with gradual shades, designed exclusively for Villa Medici and made from recycled French wool. The project aimed to create a dialogue between the existing heritage and contemporary design with the signature of Fendi’s artistic directors, that of Fendi Casa, and the contribution of a number of designers involved, such as Chiara Andreatti, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, and Toan Nguyen. The spaces of Villa Medici were enriched with modern and contemporary tap estries side by side with historical tapestries.

In particular, the Grand Salon, a 150-square-meter space dedicated to concerts, lectures and installations, has been renovated.
