Emergency restoration for Collevecchio's Crucifix triumphans: it will be at Forli's major Dante exhibition

The Triumphans Crucifix of the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Annunziata in Collevecchio (Rieti), dating back to the period between the late 12th and early 13th century, will be restored as part of the protection activities of the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the Metropolitan area of Rome and the province of Rieti: this is a virtuous synergy that sees the collaboration between institutions, entities and territories.

The Crucifix is the property of the Suburbicarian Diocese of Sabina-Poggio Mirteto and for restoration it was removed from the church of Collevecchio, unfit for use since the 2016 earthquake, thanks to the collaboration of the Fire Brigade of the territorial detachment of Poggio Mirteto, under the supervision of the Superintendence directed by Paola Refice.

The emergency restoration will begin in the coming days and will be carried out by restorer Anna Paola Salvi, under the direction of Giuseppe Cassio, in some spaces made available by the Varro Foundation. Part of the cost of the restoration work will be borne by the Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì.

The Crucifix will be part of the exhibition itinerary of the major exhibition Dante. The Vision of Art, which will be on display from April 1 to July 11, 2021 at the San Domenico Museums in Forlì, on the occasion of the celebrations of the seven hundredth anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death. An exhibition that will count three hundred works, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, organized by the Uffizi Galleries and the Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì, and curated by Antonio Paolucci and Fernando Mazzocca, assisted by a prestigious scientific committee.
