I am asymptomatic. This means that I can devote as usual all my time and energies to the Uffizi: and today I do so far more than willingly for this celebration.”

“Today we can’t help but be proud of how far the education department has come in half a century,” Schmidt explained, continuing on the theme of the day, “which, precisely in such a difficult and delicate moment as the present, plays a fundamental role also through digital technologies. In fact, about fifty schools throughout the country are participating in the new Digital Ambassadors of Art program, which has been developed in recent months to be able to carry out heritage education also at a distance while also fostering the technological learning of children. We also won an Erasmus plus grant from the European community to expand this program together with our partners in Spain and Greece. After two decades of cuts in teaching resources in recent years we have made a radical change of course and the department now flourishes: it has grown not only on the human and economic resources front but also in the program offered to the public, even in these difficult times, keeping intact the spirit of its founder Maria Fossi Todorow.”
