An important new donation will enrich the heritage of the Venice Civic Museums Foundation. It consists of 216 drawings by some of the most important authors on the Italian and international scene, dating from the 1500s to the second half of the last century, donated to the City of Venice by Paolo Galli.
The latter was received at Ca’ Farsetti by City Council President Ermelinda Damiano, who presented him with the City of Venice’s pennant as a token of esteem and gratitude.
President Damiano also presented the benefactor with a letter from Mayor Brugnaro in which the first citizen remarked on the value of the commendable act of generosity “which makes us proud and at the same time invests us with a very great responsibility.”
“The donation will allow the City of Venice to significantly enrich the Cabinet of drawings and prints carefully preserved by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia,” said the mayor. “A patrimony that, year by year, is significantly increasing in value but which, thanks to its precious donation, will go on to further characterize itself. It will do so by being able to count new preparatory drawings by our fellow citizens Tiepolo or Palma il Giovane all the way to Fortuny Madrasso and other illustrious painters of the Venetian and Veneto tradition, but even more so by going on to forfeit autograph works by artists who have lived far from our land such as Pomodoro, Sironi, Novati and so many others that she asks us to constitute for eternity.”
