Betty Woodman, celebrated ceramicist and one of the leading figures in twentieth-century art, has died at the age of 87.
Born in 1930 in Connecticut, she was the first woman to whom the Metropolitan Museum in New York devoted a retrospective exhibition a few years ago.
Her ceramics are made following her own expressive register, with assemblages and colors, and are influenced by the Mediterranean style, for which the artist had a great passion.
His ceramic creations have become part ofcontemporary art in their own right.
In addition to the Metropolitan Museum, Woodman has exhibited at the Marino Marini Museum in Florence, Rome and London.
