Cristiano Leone is the new president of the Fondazione Antico Spedale Santa Maria della Scala in Siena: he was appointed by Mayor Nicoletta Fabio.
Thirty-nine years old, born in Naples and a cultural manager, Leone was chosen from about forty resumes that arrived at the Palazzo Pubblico. The newly appointed president has an important international career behind him: holder of a European doctorate in Romance Philology, awarded with highest honors at the University of Siena, he then specialized in cultural management at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management. He has held important institutional positions in both the public and private sectors, working with some of Europe’s most distinguished institutions, including Sorbonne Universités, Villa Médicis - Académie de France à Rome, Museo Nazionale Romano, Hermès Italia and Hermès International. Her most recent work includes artistic and linguistic direction for the prefiguration of the Cité internationale de la langue française, a cultural project of President Emmanuel Macron, which opened its doors last November.
In addition to the president, the mayor also appointed the new board of directors: Niccolò Fiorini as vice president, and Massimiliana Quartesan, Viviana Castelli, and Francesco Piroli. President of the board of auditors, appointed by the mayor, will be Camillo Natali.
“From today a new path is being charted that I hope will give the right value to all that is enclosed within Santa Maria, and I’m obviously not just talking about material things,” emphasizes the mayor of Siena Nicoletta Fabio. “Thinking about the future of the Antico Spedale, also thanks to the professionalism and expertise of the names on the new board of directors, I imagine a dynamic laboratory, a dialogue between different forms of art with a focus on the contemporary. I believe it is important to get to work right away to build together with director Chiara Valdambrini and the whole team of Santa Maria wide-ranging projects distributed on several levels.”
“To do this, I am convinced that the managerial and artistic skills of the new board members will provide the right creative impetus to attract the eyes of external partners and investors to Siena and Santa Maria,” he concludes. “There is now a need for a careful redefinition of roles and precise internal regulations that will allow the BoD to work with serenity for the growth of a unique museum complex in the world.”
The new board of the Santa Maria della Scala Foundation will be convened shortly by the new president to take office and begin its work.
