CGIL, CISL and UIL are asking the Ministry of Culture to cancel the next edition of free Sundays in state museums, scheduled for March 1, due to the coronavirus emergency. This is what is stated in a joint note sent to Minister Dario Franceschini, Chief of Cabinet Lorenzo Casini, Secretary General Salvo Nastasi, Director General Organization Marina Giuseppone, and Director Service II DG OR Alessandro Benzia.
“It seems appropriate,” the unions write, “to provide for the temporary suspension of activities aimed at the public in the regions concerned and, more generally, at least the suspension of the free opening scheduled for the first Sunday of March p.v. throughout the country, in view of the foreseeable increases in visitor flows, and pending the preparation of appropriate preventive measures.”
The unions, moreover, declare “their full availability to any form of collaboration aimed at improving the prevention conditions suitable to deal with the emergency, in relation to safety measures to protect the health of employees and citizens and in view of the necessary management of forced absences from duty of workers residing in the areas affected by the outbreak.” In several Italian regions, however, all museums have already been closed until further notice.
