Condensing the infinite: in Milan, at the Building space, the exhibition of Michele Ciacciofera


The Building Terzo Piano exhibition space in Milan is hosting from Jan. 16 to Feb. 17 the exhibition "Condensing the Infinite," a solo show by Michele Ciacciofera, created in collaboration with the MA*GA Museum.

At Milan, the exhibition space Building Terzo Piano welcomes the exhibition Condensare l’infinito, a solo show by Michele Ciacciofera (Nuoro, 1969), curated by Angelo Crespi, and realized in collaboration with the MA*GA Museum, on view through Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024.

The exhibition presents a series of works in different materials: polychrome blown glass sculptures from Murano, some previously exhibited at the Petit Palais in Paris, along with the painting The Translucent Skin of the Present. The works can also be considered a visual manifesto of Ciacciofera’s poetics. Made at the Seguso Vetri d’Arte furnace in Murano and belonging to the Tales of the Floating World series, the sculptures are conceived as fragments from another world. In line with the artist’s research, the works explore the formal ambiguity between the realms of the living, reflecting on the current assumptions of “infra-lives” and global collapse. Reflection on the temporal question emerges in relation to assumptions about the end of civilization.



The exhibition choice of works was conceived as a plastic extension of the exhibition opened at the MA*GA Museum. Divided into three rooms, the exhibition analyzes the relationship between different materials such as ceramics, in relation to moss, recycled materials or even groups of vertical works that evoke megalithic or monolithic forms, such as Menhir in a connection between verticality of the sky and horizontality of the earth. Between physical and spiritual world.

The exhibition is also accompanied by a monograph curated by Johan&Levi editore that contains photographic documentation related to the various stages of Michele Ciacciofera’s creative journey, as well as an in-depth study of the artist’s research. The book takes an unconventional form similar to a geographical atlas, interweaving the theoretical and visual parts. This structure represents a conceptual journey between geological and human memory, between the ancient and the modern, offering a unique perspective, undoubtedly different from that of a traditional catalog.

Notes on the artist

Michele Ciacciofera was born in Nuoro in 1969 and currently lives and works in Paris. His work is characterized by the use of a variety of media: painting, drawing, sound, sculpture, with the use in addition of materials such as ceramics, glass, bronze, stone and assemblages of materials.

Through his interest in archaeology, and his training in political science, the artist explores the meaning of anthropology, revisited myths and collective memory through different themes related to the islands he is from, Sardinia and Sicily in a close relationship with matter, an element with a strong communicative capacity. In addition to numerous international museum institutions, his works have been exhibited at the 57th Venice International Art Biennale , Documenta 14 in Kassel and Athens, MAN Museum in Nuoro, CAFA Museum in Beijing, Museum of Contemporary Art in Rochechouart (France), Rennes Museum, Summerhall Edinburgh, IMMA Museum in Dublin.

In 2015-2016, he also received the Civitella Ranieri NYC Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship, an artist residency program. Currently, Ciacciofera is preparing two solo exhibitions in France and one in Scotland, along with two public works in France and Italy. She will also participate in the 6th Mardin Biennial of Contemporary Art in Turkey with a dedicated work.
