Committee for the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci's passing is set up


The committee for the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) has officially taken office.

The committee for the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci (Vinci, 1452 - Amboise, 1519), which will take place throughout 2019, was established yesterday at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, with events and exhibitions commemorating one of humanity’s greatest geniuses as well as one of the leading artists of the Renaissance. The first meeting of the committee, held on the very occasion of its establishment, was an opportunity to remember the figure of Carlo Pedretti (Casalecchio di Reno, 1928 - Lamporecchio, 2018), the distinguished Leonardo scholar who died last Jan. 5.

The committee is composed of Barbara Agosti, professor of History of Art Criticism at the University of Rome Tor Vergata; Pinin Brambilla Barcilon, architect and restorer of the Last Supper in the Santa Maria delle Grazie complex in Milan; Roberta Barsanti, director of the Museo Leonardiano in Vinci; Alessandro Cecchi, director of the Casa Buonarroti Foundation; Vincent Delieuvin, conservator of 16th-century Italian painting at the Louvre Museum; Mario De Simoni, managing director of Ales; Maria Teresa Fiorio, professor of museology at the University of Milan; Antonio Forcellino, architect and restorer; Fiorenzo Galli, general director of the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology in Milan; Paolo Galluzzi, director of the Galileo Museum in Florence; Pietro Marani, professor of modern art history at the Milan Polytechnic; Antonia Pasqua Recchia, architect and adviser to the Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism; Sabrina Sammuri, general director of culture, identity and autonomy of the Lombardy Region; and Luke Syson, curator of European sculpture and decorative arts at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. The committee was chaired by Professor Paolo Galluzzi.
